With a 6.8 % share of the global ICT market in 2005, Germany was the world's third largest country market after the United States (28 %) and Japan (14.7 %), and by far the largest in Europe. The ICT sector has developed into our most important industrial branch, accounting for sales of 134 billion Euros in 2005 and a 6.2 % share of gross domestic product. It is growing significantly more rapidly than the economy as a whole and thus turning into a driving force for economic performance in the Federal Republic.
Employment figures in the ICT branch have also expanded – by some 4,000 jobs to a total 750,000. Nearly every tenth job in Germany is now found in the provider and user sides of the ICT business. This increase is particularly the result of the prospering fields of IT services and software. At a good 5 %, software is now the fastest growing market segment. Figures for individuals beginning to study informatics have unfortunately been declining for some years now. All sides must therefore do more for education and training in the field to make sure that German ICT companies remain competitive.
Under the lead management of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the German government will develop a new Action Program (iD2010 – Information Society Germany 2010) by the end of summer 2006. This will help further improve framework conditions for innovation, growth, and employment, and it will continue and intensify the good partnership with companies, industrial associations, and societal groupings in the interest of implementing the policy objectives that have been set.
I am pleased to see that CONQUEST has focused its attention for several years on the topic of the quality assurance of software products. Highly skilled workers who produce quality products are, of course, key to ensuring export success and are immensely important for sustaining the competitiveness of Germany as an ICT location. I wish the 9th Conference on Quality Engineering in Software Technology every success.

"A time to make friends" is the motto of the FIFA World Cup 2006. This is a great motto for our conference as well. Therefore I gladly invite you to the 9th international Conference on Quality Engineering in Software Technology, CONQUEST, in Berlin.
As the Managing Director of ASQF, I am glad to have the CONQUEST in Berlin for the first time. Not only because it is Germany's capital. I am personally excited because Berlin is very close to my hometown, Potsdam. This region provides everything one needs to come together and to make friends.
The FIFA World Cup offers Germany the great opportunity to present itself to the world. With the CONQUEST, the ASQF is taking its chance to present news and knowledge in software quality to the world's IT scene. We can rely on our experience in organising conferences. As you may know, the ASQF hosted the 3rd World Conference for Software Quality, 3WCSQ, in Munich last year. I am proud that the ASQF hosts the CONQUEST for the ninth time and has established this software quality conference with worldwide respect. We are organising a significant IT event in Berlin, not only for Berlin's software scene, but for software professionals from all over the world. Improving software quality is the CONQUEST's ambitious goal. And that has always been the aim of the ASQF as well.
From September 27th to 29th, leading experts come to the German capital to share the latest news, insights, experiences and advances in software quality, project management, testing and software development processes. This year we put a special focus on "Software Quality in Service-Oriented Architectures". Use your chance to meet experts and VIPs in software engineering business&nbsh;– during the conference or at the Social Event at the Mercedes World. Come to the CONQUEST 2006 in Berlin!

I'm pleased to invite you to attend the 9th International Conference on Quality Engineering in Software Technology, CONQUEST 2006. It is a particular pleasure to have CONQUEST the first time in Berlin.
Out of over 80 paper submissions from 19 countries, the program committee compiled an excellent conference program addressing a broad range of topics on software quality - this year with special emphasis on quality aspects around SOA approaches. Many international speakers are involved in the CONQUEST 2006 programme. This year, all lectures will be given in English to please our international attendees.
The exhibition, which will be running on Thursday and Friday, provides a wide range of over 20 national and international companies working in the software quality field that will demonstrate their offers.
CONQUEST 2006 is organized by ASQF GmbH and supported by the Technical University Berlin, Fraunhofer FOKUS, the SIG on Testing, Analysis and Verification of Software of the German Society for Informatics (GI TAV) and the GI Joint Interest Group Modelling.
Altogether CONQUEST 2006 will set new standards. You will benefit from the conference and our software quality network.
