Social Event at Krongut Bornstedt, Potsdam

The Social Event will take place on the second conference day; on September 27th, 2007.

Crown Estate Bornstedt

This CONQUEST's Social Event takes place at one of the most beautiful historic sights in Potsdam: the Bornstedt crown estate "Krongut Bornstedt". After a huge fire destroyed all the old buildings in 1846 it was rebuilt and in 1867 taken over by the crown prince Frederick William (1831–1888) and his English wife Victoria (1840–1901) who ran the estate in "natural ownership and usufruct" and transformed it into a model estate, chiefly for dairy and poultry farming. Banquet hallVarious royalty took up residence – in 1950 Crown Prince William of Prussia (1882–1951) was the last owner of the estate. This ownership was revoked and later assumed by the state of Brandenburg. The buildings were compartmentalised and allocated to various uses. Offices and sheds were erected putting an end to the once compelling beauty of this ensemble. In 1999 "Krongut Bornstedt" (Bornstedt Crown Estate) underwent extensive restoration. In 2002 the crown estate was reopened on June 1st in the Year of Romanticism.

After an one-hour sightseeing tour after the conference on Thursday, all Social Event participants will be welcomed at the crown estate by two Prussian guards in their ceremonial uniform. After a welcome drink and an introduction to the estate buildings everyone will enter the brewery which was constructed in 1689 next to the manor-house and produced a "superb brown beer", a distillery was added at a later date. Today, the existent tradition of brewing beer in the court brewery of the Bornstedt Crown Estate is carried on. Therefore this evening fine food, excellent drinks and superb entertainment will await you and hopefully create a night to remember...
