»Erfahrungen mit SPiCE

The information on the experiences with SPICE assessments and SPICE based process improvements will help the organizations in improving the performance of their processes in future.

  • Experiences from SPICE assessments (Pdf)

The above Pdf contains description of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the SPICE trials and some of the results of investigations performed on the data collected during each phase. These include analysis of assessment effort and cost, difficulties in performing assessments at particular capability levels, perceived benefits of process improvement, the effect of ISO 9001 certification, and the variation of the assessment results across geographical regions.
  • Software Process Assessment and Improvement

The process assessment and improvement activities can be carried out in the context of ISO 9001:2000, TickIt 5, CMM, SPiCE / ISO 15504, ECSS, and SPiCE for SPACE. Indeed, a large part of our IT work can be considered as "software process improvement".
  • Standardised Process Improvement (Pdf)

Until now, the industry has not had a recognised methodology or frame work on which to base a process improvement initiative. The absence of guidelines meant that any improvements are isolated and benefits cannot be coordinated or repeated. The industry is unable to systematically assess construction process, prioritise process improvements, and direct resources appropriately. Moreover its not possible for companies to benchmark and measure their performance relative to other organisations. The above Pdf file will describe current research that is attempting to address these issues.
  • Visual approach to Software Process Improvement (Pdf)

The complexity of the results obtained from software process assessments make the use of visualisation tools almost essential for their comprehension. This Pdf file describes how tools originally developed in connection with the trials of the SPICE project, also have a role to play in assisting organisations to comprehend, and hence to improve, their software processes. And it also suggests how the tools might be extended to form part of a process improvement environment.
  • Tools to visualize the results of SPICE assessments (Pdf)

This Pdf file describes some tools developed to visualise the results of SPICE conformant assessments. The tools, which are equally useful to software producers and to software procurers, also have a valuable research role and have been used to summarise the results of the worldwide trials of the SPICE reference model.
